It seems that the words “Spin” and “First on NEAR” have already become inseparable neighbors. We were the first to offer an on-chain order book solution, the first to launch spot markets on the mainnet and the first to release on-chain Perpetual Contracts. Our journey of pioneering doesn’t end here and today we’re thrilled to announce that we’re ready to become the first DEX on NEAR Protocol to start supporting the private sharding solution by Calimero as a faster side-chain solution complementing the NEAR native blockchain.
A Calimero Private Shard is a customizable sidechain built on top of NEAR Protocol that shares all the benefits of NEAR including high performance, incredible security and infinite scalability and sustainability. But at the same time Calimero Shards are independent networks that do not share validators, execution and state storage and can support up to 200k transactions per second. This way, the Calimero solution opens the path for more centralized and several times faster transaction processing — a perfect addition to Spin’s dApp on NEAR native for those who search for still higher speed.
This way, in the future Spin is likely to become a place to meet the demands of both those who have speed as their top priority and those who prioritize decentralization and privacy. NEAR Protocol and Calimero Shards communicate with each other over a bridge. This bridge works similar as the Rainbow Bridge works between NEAR and Ethereum — there is a light client on one each side of the bridge used to sync relevant blocks from one chain to the other, which provides an ability to prove that something happened on a specific chain. There are relayers that relay blocks between chains. This bridge is also able to transfer assets via contracts and call other contracts between both chains. So the Spin users will be able to switch between NEAR Protocol and Calimero Shards easily and seamlessly according to their needs.
